Professor Jerzy Hoła graduated from Wrocław University of Science and Technology in 1976. Since then, he has been employed at the Faculty of Civil and Water Engineering. He earned his PhD in 1984 and his habilitation in 2000. In 2007, the President of the Republic of Poland awarded him the title of Professor in Technical Sciences.

His scientific interests include, among others, general construction, building materials engineering (particularly concrete), non-destructive testing, improving non-destructive testing methodologies, and applications of artificial intelligence in construction.

He has published over 300 scientific works, including more than 130 articles in both international and national journals, an authored monograph, and co-authored three books. His achievements also include two patents and seven utility models. His citation count in the Scopus database exceeds 1,100, and over 900 in the Web of Science database.

He has supervised seven PhD candidates in technical sciences. He has reviewed over 70 doctoral and habilitation theses, applications for the title of professor, books, and monographs. He has carried out several research grants funded by the Committee for Scientific Research (KBN), the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNSW), the National Science Centre (NCN), and the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR).

From 2008 to 2016, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Water Engineering. Between 2002 and 2008, he was the Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering, and prior to that, for six years, he was the Deputy Director of the Institute. From 2004 to 2015, he headed the Accredited Research Laboratory of the Institute of Civil Engineering. From 2002 to 2019, he was the head of the Department of General Construction. He was also a Senator of Wrocław University of Science and Technology from 2002 to 2016.

He holds full building, design, and execution qualifications. He is an expert in construction and a certified specialist in mycological and construction assessments. He has completed over 500 construction expert reports and several dozen building projects.

He is a member of the Committee of Civil and Water Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), Vice-Chairman of the Section of Building Materials Engineering, Chairman of the Commission for Construction and Mechanics of the Wrocław Branch of PAN, a member of the Scientific Committee of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians (PZITB), a member of the Sectoral Council for Competences in Construction, and Leader of the Working Group on Educational Barriers. He also serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals.

Professor Jerzy Hoła has been honored with the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Gold Cross of Merit, the Medal of the National Education Commission, the Badge of Merit for Construction, and numerous gold badges from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, the Federation of Engineering Associations (NOT), PZITB, the Polish Association of Building Materials Producers (PSMB), and the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians in Structural Engineering (SITPMB).
