Summary:

     Murugan Muthu is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Poland. He is a scholarship holder of the ULAM NAWA programme numbered 7/2021. The duration of his ULAM scholarship is 24 months (01-06-2022 to 31-05-2024). He received a funding aid of 0.31 million PLN for the research topic entitled ‘concrete filter for low-cost treatment of industrial wastewater’.
     Murugan obtained a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, a Master degree and a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from the Anna University (India), and a Diploma degree in Civil Engineering from the Central Polytechnic College, India. Earlier, he was a scholarship holder of two Postdoc grants ‘Future Talents’ and ‘Career Bridging Grant’ which has been funded by the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany. He also served as a Research Fellow at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. More than two years, Murugan worked as an R&D Manager at the Larsen & Toubro Construction, which is India’s largest construction sector. He has authored 16 scientific papers, exposed to both academic and industrial research environments for the past 10 years, and trained well to handle advanced research tools that are generally used in the study of physicochemical behaviour of solids and solutions.

Research Interests:

Low carbon cements, concrete water filter, and nanoengineered cement composites

Achievements:

  • In 2017, his research proposal submitted to the EU Marie Curie Individual Fellowship was awarded Seal of Excellence.
  • In 2014, he received the best poster award at the Clean Water International Conference organized at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
  • In 2010, he was awarded the best outgoing undergraduate student of the college.
